Since 2022, The Sailor Justice Project has helped colleges, universities, nonprofits, and community organizations secure more than $17 million in funding with a 67% success rate. Through grant writing, funding strategy, workshops, and federal proposal development, we help organizations build sustainable funding pipelines and create lasting community impact.
Our work is grounded in values that guide every partnership. We believe in social, economic, and racial justice. We advocate for human rights and foster inclusion and belonging across all communities. We affirm that language equity matters, that community health includes mental health, and that organizations thrive when they lead with abundance, equity, and care.
These values shape our approach to grant writing, consulting, and capacity building, ensuring that every project strengthens organizations, amplifies community voices, and creates opportunities for long-term impact.
Meet the Founder: Doria Wormbly
I am a higher education professional, former TRIO practitioner, grant strategist, and social justice advocate committed to helping organizations secure the resources they need to create lasting impact.
Before becoming a grant writer, I worked directly with students and families in higher education. As a TRIO Student Support Services professional, I advised students, developed degree and transfer plans, coordinated summer bridge and intake programs, taught TRIO 101, planned college visits, and supported students as they navigated the path from community college to four-year institutions. I have attended and supported TRIO conferences at the local, state, and regional levels and remain connected to the profession through my involvement with Texas TRIO and the Grant Professionals Association.
That experience fundamentally shapes my approach to grant writing.
Too often, grants are written by individuals who have never been responsible for implementing the programs they propose. I know what it feels like to operate under a grant that looks great on paper but creates challenges in practice. As a result, I write with the practitioner in mind.
My goal is not simply to help organizations secure funding. My goal is to help organizations secure funding through proposals that are functional, implementable, and designed to support the people responsible for delivering services every day.
I believe community colleges, nonprofits, and under-resourced organizations deserve the same opportunity to compete for funding as institutions with large grant offices and dedicated development teams. The Sailor Justice Project exists to help level that playing field.
